Russian universities will increase the quota for students from the Republic of Belarus

1 December 2022

In 2023, 1,300 graduates of Belarusian schools will have the opportunity to enter Belarusian higher education institutions on a budget.

The numerical increase in the quota compared to previous years is significant: since 2019, the number of places for young people from the union state in the universities of the Russian Federation has increased by almost 18 times.

Yury Makushin, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Belarus, stressed that Belarusians have more and more opportunities to get higher education in Russia: 230 seats, in 2021 – 700, in 2022 – 1100 seats, respectively.

“In 2023, the quota for studying at Russian universities will be 1,300 people,” Makushin said.

He also noted that graduates can enter prestigious Russian universities based on the results of olympiads and competitions, and applied mathematics, medicine and management are the most popular among students from Belarus.

The increase in the quota is obviously caused by demand from foreign applicants. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education notes that if five years ago, in 2017, the number of foreigners was about 250 thousand, then in 2021 almost 325 thousand students from abroad studied at Russian universities.
