Issues of developing the EAEU single labor market were discussed at the Geneva Migration Forum

The forum “International Dialogue on Migration” was held in Geneva, at which the Minister for Economy and Financial Policy of the EEC Bakytzhan Sagintayev spoke about the migration situation in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union and the work of the Eurasian Economic Commission on the development of a single labor market of the integration association.

The speaker also raised the topic of possible barriers arising from the movement of citizens in their labor activity. The issues of the impact of food security and climate change on migration were brought up for discussion. Within the framework of the forum, the EEC Minister met with the Head of the Labor Migration Department of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Michelle Leighton, as well as with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Antonio Vitorino and Senior Advisor to the Director General of the International Organization for Migration for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Dejan Keserovich. During these meetings the ways of further cooperation of the organizations were determined.

– We hope that the development of our progressive cooperation, based on the Memorandum of Cooperation and the goals of the Global Compact on Migration, will continue and will be mutually beneficial. We are always open for mutually beneficial cooperation, – Bakytzhan Sagintayev emphasized.

As a result of the event, an agreement was reached to continue the development of cooperation between the EEC and the World Health Organization (WHO). The EEC Minister informed the WHO representatives about new areas of economic cooperation between the EAEU countries. Earlier, in the Strategic Directions for the Development of Eurasian Economic Integration, they were recorded until 2025.
