On October 20, the National Library of Belarus in Minsk hosted the II International Scientific and Practical Conference “Intellectual Property in the Modern World: Challenges of the Time and Development Prospects”. The participants of the event discussed the possibilities of the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Commonwealth of Independent States in the formation of effective integration mechanisms for the protection of intellectual property rights in the digital environment on the territory of the EAEU member states.

Nurzhamal Ilyasova, Deputy Director of the EEC Business Development Department, and Timur Mansurov, Head of the Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Innovation Department of the Economic Cooperation Department of the CIS Executive Committee, emphasized that mutual work on the development of this area is carried out within the framework of the previously concluded Memorandum on deepening cooperation. Both sides are aimed at resolving the tasks of conjugating the law of the EAEU and the international legal framework of the CIS, the purpose of which is to jointly build and accelerate Eurasian integration processes.

“In the last decade, illegal activities related to violations of intellectual property rights have moved into the digital environment, so our joint efforts are more than justified and relevant,” commented the Deputy Director of the EEC Business Development Department.

Nurzhamal Ilyasova also added that today the EEC is focusing on the development of a draft international agreement of the Eurasian Economic Union on coordinated approaches to combat violations of intellectual property rights on the Internet. Soon it will be possible to talk about the prospect of introducing blocks for illegal content, restricting access to mirror blocked sites, stopping the issuance of information about prohibited information resources in the issuance line, as well as other countermeasures.
